We need research because we work off evidence based practice, and ebp comes from research. We need research to validate what nursing is doing for people what is and is not working. Fundamental patterns of knowing in nursing: empiric knowledge: hard facts, aesthetics: the (cid:862)art of (cid:374)ursi(cid:374)g(cid:863) readi(cid:374)g fa(cid:272)ial expressio(cid:374, personal knowledge: knowing things work from experience, ethics: what is right vs. what is wrong. Research provides specific knowledge that empowers nurses to meet constant changing channellings and maintains social relevance. Research: the systematic rigorous logical investigation that aims to answer questions about nursing phenomena. Phenomena: can be defined as occurrences, circumstances, or facts that are perceptible by the senses. So anything that happens and you see it. Evidence based practice in nursing: ebp refers to the incorporation of evidence from research, clinical expertise, client expertise, client preferences, and other available resources to make decisions for pts.
