Pharmacokinetics: what the body does with the drug. Pharmacodynamics: what the drug does to the body (includes physiological effects and mechanism of action. Toxicology: adverse effects of drugs and environmental substances (industrial, household etc) Therapeutics: the use of drugs in the prevention and treatment of disease. Pharmacy: profession concerning the preparation, storage dispensing and appropriate use of drugs. Medicinal chemistry: branch of organic chemistry specializing in drug design and synthesis. Pharmacognosy: study of drugs isolated from natural sources. Receptors (endogenous ligand that is affected by growth hormones etc) Small molecules :chemical compound (151 da) largest group of molecules. Biologics: proteinaceous drugs ie. monoclonal antibody-based (149 000 da) targeting receptors and endogenous ligands. Drugs acting at synaptic and neuroeffector junctional sites (autonomic) drugs that are also effecting endogenous ligands. He likes to apply the knowledge to a question with problem sets. Math will be very simple in the test unlike the powerpoints/notes. Two factors that will affect a drug response.
