Purpose of business was to improve quality of life. To protect this business we must establish rules. The best thing to do is to act as to bring about the best (good) consequences. Good (best consequences) right (what reason, religion etc. says regardless of consequences) Law = can/cannot (on ethical grounds, law can be wrong) Wants are linked to consequences (ie pleasure, pain etc. ) Rights are regardless of wants and of consequences (ie moral rights, human rights etc. ) Utilitarianism: act to create greatest good for the greatest number (end justifies the means) Amoral: a choice that has nothing to do with morality.
