Info are presented in accurate way; provides standardi ed techniques; bring researchers out of (cid:873)chaos(cid:874) Research begins w/ general question about specific groups or individuals. Ex. college students or group of women. Population: entire group of set of individuals of interest for particular research question. Should always be identified by the researcher; vary in size thus, should be limited. Not only limited to people; can be anything. Since very large, impossible for researcher to examine every individual in it - thus select smaller & more manageable group from pop & limit studies to selected group. Sample: set of individuals selected from a pop that represents the pop in research study. When researcher finishes examining the sample, goal is to generalize results back to entire pop.
