Document Summary

Throughout the lecture, a video about baby monkeys and their mothers was referred to multiple times. In this video, there were two types of offspring, a bold outgoing monkey, and a shy, anxious one. It was soon realized that the baby"s attitude was a reflection of the mother"s attitude. The mother of the bold monkey was relaxed, available, and not too overbearing. The baby knew that she was there and always kept her in sight, only going back to her periodically. The anxious baby"s mother was extremely nervous all the time, clinging onto her child and always wanting to protect it. She did not give her baby room to roam around, allowing the offspring to discover new things on their own, resulting in an anxious baby. Newborns were tested and it was discovered that offspring of the relaxed mother were more confident than the offspring of the nervous ones, showing that this trait may be genetic.
