Document Summary

Lab 6 (chapter 8): the retina (graded out of 50, worth 5% of final grade) Part 1: mapping of receptive fields: compare and contrast the 3 rfs you mapped. All three rfs were of the same shape, but different size- although the different sizes are not apparent in the pictures above (to save space). The first rf is an off/on ganglion cell since it is has an inhibitory centre and excitatory ring, while the other two rfs are. On/off ganglion cells since they have an excitatory centre and inhibitory ring. Since all ganglion cells have either an off/on or on/off rf, i looked for the centre of the cell first. If it was an on/off cell, i would identify the edge where firing was strong and went around in a circle- following its arrangement shape. Then, i would identify the baseline, where firing drops, near the + spot.
