Lifetime prevalence 10-25% for women, 5-12% for men. 60% who experience mde will have 2nd, 70% experience 3rd, 90% will experience 4th. 1 year after diagnosis, 40% still meet criteria. Depressed mood most of the day for 2 years (1 year for children) w/ no more than 2 months where criteria not met. Must include 2+ of following -> poor appetite/overeating, insomnia, low energy, low self esteem, poor concentration, feeling hopelessness.
