Document Summary

Integration of sensory information with permanently stored memories: perception is subjective, top down processing (how our brains make use of information that has already been brought into the brain by one or more of the sensory systems) This should (cid:373)ea(cid:374) that (cid:449)e (cid:272)ould pe(cid:396)(cid:272)ei(cid:448)e sti(cid:373)uli that did (cid:374)ot e(cid:454)(cid:272)eed a (cid:396)e(cid:272)epto(cid:396)"s th(cid:396)eshold. Sensory coding send messages to the visual cortex via the sensory nerve, the optic nerve: sensory modality is coded by the specific nerve that carries the neuronal message. Or, different neurons may encode a specific feature. Adaptation: as long as stimulation is constant (remains the same), it is only necessary to perceive the initial onset, the olfactory nerves carrying the coded odour message have ceased to fire. Our nervous system can easily detect the onset and the offset of a stimulus because these both represent a change of energy.
