Clozapine (clozaril): fewer side effects, work on both positive and negative symptoms, they target dopamine in select areas of the brain , patients are less likely to lose motor movements, the also work on serotonine. Increase the release of gaba ,which suppresses the body. Drawback : impair judgment ,coordination, alertness, reaction time, highly addictive, lethal: buspar : new drug. Less side effects, does not affect alertness judgment etc, less addictive. Take 2-3 weeks before it begins to work. 1rst gen : work really well, affect both serotonine and epinephrine, have serious side effects: prozac, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (ssri"s): increase availability of serotonin, as affective, tryciclics, mao inhibitors. 3rd gen: as 1rst gen but less side effects , very selective: zoloft and paxil prozacs cousins.
