In alan campbell"s article, he writes about how translating words from one language to another gets rid of integrity from the originating language. For example, he writes about the term paye which can interchangeably be called paje. The root-word paye appears in portuguese paje and is taken as an equivalent to the word shaman. The difference between the two is significantly large as paye means a whole way of being in the world (including the outlook and relationship that everyone is involved in), but paje simply means a noun. Although this issue is a significant point in campbell"s article, his main argument can be deduced as a reflection to the usage of language by other writers on the topics of religion. The first contribution written in favour to alan campbell"s perspective was john. Grimm describes the ojibway shamans in specific groups where he does not translate the terms of the people, but rather incorporated these terms into the english language.
