September 5, 2017: brief stuffs about plants, primary production: a lot of things are made from plants. They also need oxygen, proof is that they have mitochondria: secondary metabolism, chemical warfare: antimicrobial properties, protects from herbivores, bio-products, chemicals. Plants have this really diverse ability to produce biochemicals. Most drugs we use contain things from plants. Lots of other things were derived from plants (birth control made from yam), opioids: plants make drugs and useful bioproducts, very simple production method. Easier to use plants than to use chemicals, it will do complex biochemistry for you: crops and agriculture, we used to be hunters and gatherers (human civilization, most of us are agriculturalists and eliminated hunters. Manipulating plants and their production means we can feed more people. Someone else is taking care of feeding everybody and all you have to do is buy it.
