Document Summary

The heat of ionization of a weak acid. The purpose of performing this experiment was to measure the heat of ionization in a weak acid. Observe the change in temperature and heat exchange once solution is placed in a closed system. We will measure the heat capacity in a styrofoam cup using an insulator (calorimeter). also to record the changes once heat is 15 seconds time interval. Calorimetry is derived from the latin term calor which means heat, and the greek term. Metry means to measure, the heat in the system. The scottish physician joseph black, was the first to recognise the distinction between heat and temperature. He studied the problems associated with the heat measurement and constructed the first modern calorimeter. The terms endothermic and exothermic reactions were invented to describe heat reactions and are also his contributions to chemistry. A calorimeter was used to measure the heats of reaction experimentally; this was done by taking a styrofoam cup.
