Domains
A domain name is an identification string that defines a realm of authority or control within the
internet. Formed by the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS). Any name
registered in the DNS is a domain name.
How the web works
1. Type in the address. A request is sent to get the IP address of the requested site/server
2. Record for this domain is not in my cache. Forward the query to another server
3. Send to the DNS server to get the data from the server. IP address is then sent to the
requesting device
4. The device establishes a connection to the server of the IP address
5. The server obtains the data requested and sends it back to the requesting device
Web Hosting
Web hosting are services that allow individuals and organizations to make their website accessible
worldwide. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a leased/owned server for use by clients
and providing internet connectivity, typically in a data center.
