She thinks about she will return home to argelouse and see her young daughter, marie. Therese panics at the thought of what bernard, her husband, is going to say to her. She announces that she will spend a few days with him, to keep up appearances, but will then go and live with her father. Her father refuses, saying she must continue to live with her husband so no-one will know that she is guilty.
