Social construction of illness deals with illness experience; symbolic interactionism helps. Social causation is the main theme behind this version. Three types of social causation: underlying social causes: class, race, ethnicity, religion, etc, proximate social causes: neighborhood, migration status, workplace hazards, etc, mediating social causes: social support, networks, marital status, etc.
