Introduction
-when women say they are mothers in a job interview, they received less pay because
they are assumed to have a divided attention
-for men, they earned more because they assumed they would be more responsible
for their job and they would have less of a divided attention
-we see life-long wage gaps between men and women but this gap is smaller than the
gap between childless mothers and working mothers
Is hooking up bad for young women?
-there are sexual double standards
-for men, it’s look at as a good thing but not for women
-hooking up has benefits and disadvantages
-relationships between boyfriend and girlfriends provide more sexual satisfaction
-if its a one time thing, it takes more skill and intimacy to reach a level of sexual
satisfaction; women said it’s not usually satisfying for them as much as it would be if
they were in a relationship
-we look at how our social relative shape gender relations
Highway of Tears
-women were hitchhiking or they were prostitutes who were walking on the highway
-there was overrepresentation of aboriginal women
-there’s women who had gone missing on that highway
-the question: why aboriginal women?
-ex. Tina Fontaine went missing in 2014 and then her body was found murdered
-they initially run away
-it is both a gender and a race issue

-black men are more attacked and violated but the “#sayhername” campaign reminds
people that women are also targeted, especially trans and lesbian women
