Food system: the historically specific web of social relations, processes, structures and institutional arrangements that cover human interactions with nature and other humans involving production, distribution, preparation and consumption of food. Free trade: trade across national borders with no restrictions that give locally-produced products or services preferential treatment over foreign/imported products or services. Structural adjustment: changes to a countries government and economic activities imposed by foreign powers through the wb/imf. Part of the structural adjustment involves a shift from agriculture subsistence to export agriculture. Food sovereignty: the right of nations and people to control their own food systems, own markets, production models, food cultures and environments.
