Developmental biology covers animal development in biology. Focus on certain tissues and use that as model systems. Can be studied at two levels : morphological level how the tissue looks as it develops, molecular level which is a deeper level. In each of the model systems we will examine: morphological sequence of development, outline the molecular changes underlying morphological events, description of how changes in gene expression underlie and control the morphological changes and chicken compare for example. Phases 1 and 2 just looked at normal development development. Talk a little bit about the historical advances in this field. Started off in phase (cid:883) in descriptive studies what the naked eye can see in. Phase (cid:884): comparative studies compare how embryonic stages of the frog. Phase (cid:885): experimental embryology instead of looking at normal. Also using techniques to make models of human diseases. Phase 5: transgenic plants and animals using recombinant technology to make changes.
