Is a hormone produced by the stomach ghrelin increases appetite and stimulates the release of growth hormone. Ghrelin is a hormone that is produced and released mainly by the stomach. It is called the hunger-stimulating hormone as it increases food intake and causes fat storage. It can cause a increase in food intake by upto 30% and it acts on the hypothalamus, which is the control centre of appetite. It also plays a important role in reward and acts on the amygdala. Ghrelin also stimulates the release of growth hormone from the anterior pituitary, but works to break down nutrients in to their molecular components How is ghrelin controlled? mostly regulated by food intake. Levels of ghrelin in the blood are elevated just before eating and when fasting, with the timing of these rises being affected by our normal meal routine. It plays a hugre role in hunger pangs.
