It is just white and its ratio for the bill to head is a lot more 1:1 than the downy. They have a characteristic song --> even and consistent and goes on for a long time. They are a different colour as compared to other peckers. They have a whisker --> only males have it. The only woodpecker that looks like woody-wood pecker. It is big and so it is pretty loud. Sounds like the clicker but it is not even. Sounds like an owl but in the day.
