Bioa02 module #2 - hearts and circulatory system. In a closed circulatory system, circulatory uid is blood. Blood ows from the heart to arteries to capillaries to veins back to the heart again. High pressure systems - high levels of blood ow > high levels of oxygen and nutrient delivery. Allows for blood to be directed to speci c organs. In an open circulatory system, circulatory uid id haemolymph. Haemolymph is pumped from the heart to the arteries low pressure systems not as fast or ef cient as closed circulatory systems. Human/ mammal heart consists of two ventricles and two atria (left and right) left side = high pressure and pumps oxygenated blood to the systemic tissues right side = low pressure and pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs. Atrioventricular valves = valves that separate the atria and the ventricle. Semilunar valves = valves that separate lv from aorta and rv from pulmonary artery.
