Document Summary

In hesiod"s theogony, he starts off with the muses chanting the story and focusing on. Ovid"s story emphasizes the role and names of the various gods, how they came to be, their lineage and the titles they bear. On the other hand, ovid"s metamorphoses begins with the creation of the universe itself. Ovid"s creation story first describes the setting as it changes in the abstract sense, while hesiod"s is more descriptive and specific. Hesiod mentions the names of the different gods and goddesses, their parents, children, wives, husbands and how they were born more concretely that ovid. This is perhaps further evidence that hesiod"s theogony was made earlier that ovid"s metamorphoses. Hesiod also talks about himself in his writing. Unlike in ovid"s writing, hesiod places himself in the story. He sees himself as part of the story. This is important considering he does not mention a lot of human characters.
