Morphology: what do speakers know about the words for their language: morphology is the study of the internal structure of words and the rules/processes by which words are formed. Morpheme7. 1: the smallest linguistic unit that carries a meaning or grammatical function: ex. re-, start, -able, ing, morphemes can combine to form complex words (multimorphemic) Simple vs. complex: a single word may be composed of one or more morphemes. Ex. complex = boy + ish + ness.
