Chapter 10:
Motivation:
-The internal process that energises directs and sustains our behaviour.
-The personal force that causes us to behave in a particular way
-The role of management is to get everybody (i.e. employees) to work towards A GOAL. By
leading, organizing, controlling & planning.
-Through motivation the organizational goals can be achieved efficiently.
-Human resources If neglected, abused or wasted they may never recover. They may try to
undermine. However other resources can be recovered.
--Six main key theories & experiments on Motivation
Classical Theory: - Workers are motivated only by money. (not true)
Scientific Management (taylorism) : - Taylor was efficiency expert. Taylors goal:
increase output.
-Perform: time and motion studies
Break job into simple, separate tasks
Introduce: specialization + repetition
Remove inefficiencies and wasted time
Productivity should increase
Problem With Scientific Theory
Productivity does increase in short term
But - people are NOT machines!
