MGTA36H3 Study Guide - Midterm Guide: Rag Doll, Stage Fright, Comfort Zone
Document Summary
This course has 2 objectives: learning to speak with confidence, to assist in co-op positions. Performance anxiety: vast majority of people encounter fear and anxiety when having to speak in front of an audience. Keeps you in a dysfunctional comfort zone. Reinforces your belief that you will speak poorly. Performance anxiety is inside you (always experience) but we have to acknowledge and accept it. Identify these fears and begin to work to manage them and let them help you: the rag doll, head rolls, arm swings, shoulder shrugs, yawning, abdominal breathing. Deep breathing 1: breathe through nose; hold for 6 seconds; exhale for 10 seconds. Deep breathing 2: breathe with clasp hands; hold as you squeeze palms; let go of hands and breathe at same time. No milk products, soda, alcohol, ice cream. Coat teeth with vaseline; stops lip from sticking to teeth. Use talcum powder or cornstarch on body. Diaphragm should do 80% of the work of breathing.
