The people decided to sabotage the mine, and png fought back by bringing in the png military, thus the start of the civil war. Alluvial diamonds and illegal drugs appear to be more strongly linked to civil war than other resources. Timber is not associated with civil war. Other categories of natural resources are equally tied to civil war. Looting tends to influence the incidence and duration of civil wars.
