Document Summary

The challenge was to find out a way to get those insects out of the large mounds they live in. These were learned behav that are culturally transmitted from 1 gen to another: ex. Whales, 1 popn of dolphins found to use marine sponges as foraging tools: they tear off sponge, carry it over their beak, probe their beak into sand and coral while protecting themselves from getting scratched. This behaviour in specific region learns from their mothers. Different populations of whales are found to speak different dialects: ex. Pigeons, appear to learn specific food acquisition strategies from other pigeons. Many birds learn specific calls from other birds & those called change across time & geography. Cultural learning: many non-human species learn but human learn the cultural information better/faster, ex. Non-humans, japanese macaques were able to learn imo"s technique of washing potatoes and they didn"t learn it well.
