Narcotic: latin for sleep inducing; referred to as an opioid compound. But narcotic can be any type of controlled substance. Many individuals obtain opioids by drinking otc cough syrups with. Dm: robo-tripping: slang for drinking large quanities of cough syrup for recreational opioid use. Natural opioids found in opium exudant from poppy plants. Reveals a large seedpod after 2-4 days when petals fall off. Pod is scored with knife and white substance emerges which turns red when exposed to air. Primary naturally occurring opioids found in opium are morphine and codeine and all other opioids are synthetically produced. Semisynthetic opioids are synthesized from morphine or codeine include heroin, buprenorphine, hydrocodone and oxycodone. Fully synthetic opioids are not derived from morphine, codeine or other naturally occurring opioids include fentanyl, methadone, and levacetylmethadyl. Both types of opioids were produced for medicinal purposes.
