Document Summary

Lecture 7a (day lec 1): cell biology and development. Cells must be polar and engage the ec space for resources and communication. Biosynthetic pathway for endocytosis and exocytosis, shown below left. There are two secretory pathways: constitutive occurs in all cells where proteins are continuously made and exported, regulated waits for a signal, builds proteins, and exocytose all at once (shown above right) Clathrin-coated vesicles are used in the above. Some processes require extra phospholipids to balance effects and maintain ic volume: cleavage furrow, phagocytosis, wound repair. Two basic steps: invagination creates pocket or pouch, fission vesicle break away from cell membrane. Vesicles join early endosome to be routed to various destinations three things can happen: recycling send it back out through same side, transcytosis send to opposite site, degradation destroy the contents. Fusion: exocytic vesicles fuse with pm to release: uses snares to specify vesicle binding.
