answer as required. As a precaution, you should read over the entire examination carefully
before commencing.
Write all of your answers in the examination booklets provided. Do not write on this

paper with your booklets when finished. Good luck.
Part I: Differentiation (25 minutes; worth 15 marks)
Choose FIVE of the following paired names and/or terms and, after defining each of the
elements, distinguish between them. While some shared traits may prove relevant, of
greatest importance are the salient differences.
Part II: Miscellaneous Objective Questions (10 minutes; worth 10 marks)
The following questions are in two formats: fill-in-the blanks and multiple choice. Each
question is worth either one or two marks, as specified. Provide any combination of
answers which adds up to 10 marks. (Note that each blank filled or answer
circled”— correctly -- is worth one mark. Therefore, some questions, such as fill-in-
the-blanks, are worth more than others, as noted. You may answer portions of such
questions, as long as the value of your combined choices only adds up to 10 marks; if
you answer more than ten, the first ten completed will be marked. Remember to supply
all your answers in your booklet.
Part III: Challenging the Historically Suspect (40 minutes; worth 20 marks)
This part requires you to write TWO separate and concise answers, worth 10 marks
each. Each of the following statements can be challenged on an historical basis. Provide
specific evidence to justify your counter-arguments. Respond to ONE statement in
Section I and ONE statement in Section II.
Part IV: History and Film Form (30 minutes; worth 3 x 5 marks =15)
Select THREE examples from the numbered list below. When doing so, employ the
relevant film screened in this course as a means of identifying the historical significance
of the stylistic approach specified. As part of your answer, you must provide:
a) the title and date (within two years) of the film in question
b) a specific example of how the stylistic approach functions in this film
c) contextualisation of the stylistic approach’s significance by relating it to central
tenets of the listed framework, be it a national cinema, an historical period, or a
mode of film practice
