Term Test #1: Information for Students; Review Guide; and Sample Questions
1. Term Test #1 for CLA204 will take place on Thursday, 11 October, 2012, at Room G162
(Auditorium) in the OISE Building, at 252 Bloor Street West. Ensure that you know the
location of the building.
2. The test will begin promptly at 6:30pm and end promptly at 8:00pm. Please arrive in enough
time that you are seated and prepared to begin writing at 6:30pm. No additional time to
complete the test will be given if you arrive late.
3. You will need pencils to complete the Scantron form for the multiple-choice questions. You
will need pens to complete the short-answer questions.
4. The test covers material from the first four weeks of the course. That is to say: (1) the first
four lectures; (2) the specific reading assignments, as indicated on the weekly “lecture guide”
sheets, available on Blackboard ( > Course Documents > Lecture Guides).
5. If you have any questions about the material covered on the test, contact the instructor for
clarification.
6. The test counts for 25% of your term mark. The test consists of two sections:
6a. The first section consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. It is designed to take 45
minutes to complete. Sample questions are included in this document.
6b. The second section consists of 8 short-answer questions. It is designed to take 45
minutes to complete. Sample questions are included in this document.
7. There are a total of 100 marks on this test. Each multiple-choice question is worth one mark
(total: 50 marks). The short-answer questions will be assigned different numbers of marks each
based on their scope and complexity; the total number of marks for the short-answer section is
50 marks.
8. On the following pages appear some sample multiple-choice and short-answer questions.
These sample questions are indicative of the complexity of questions you will be asked on the
test itself. They do not indicate what will or will not be emphasized on the actual test. On
the final page appears a key to the sample multiple-choice questions. There you will also find
some comments on the sample short-answer questions that will help you to judge what and
how much I am expecting in your test answers.
