Test by: tie markers of different colours to infrastructure of a plant available in the temperate deciduous forest > 10 red, 10 yellow, 10 blue, and a control group with no colour to control for presence of flags. Two different treatments: different colour and different size of flags. Percent of red:green foliage recorded for each satellite image to make a ratio of red:green. For this to occur a better seed disperser would have to be co-occurring in the environment with the parasite and would be more effective at dispersing seeds either to greater microhabitats or farther distances away from the mother. Although mistletoe specialist frugivores are quantitatively important seed dispersers in some regions, their specialized diet restricts them to areas with high mistletoe densities, resulting in contagious dispersal patterns. From a strict parasitological perspective, if the seed is not transported beyond the infected host, the mistletoe has not successfully dispersed.
