Document Summary
Blood makes of ecf, a total volume of 5l. Hematocrit (2l) formed element, volume % of rbc in the blood. Plasma (3l) mainly water (92%), albumin; the presence of proteins in the plasma makes the osmotic pressure higher than that of icf. Plasma proteins collide osmotic pressure, buffer ph. Globulin [liver, lymph] ab, clotting factors, Fibrinogen [liver] forms fibrin fibers, blood clotting function. Hematopiesis division and differentiation into progenitor cells. Colony stimulating factor [csf] & interleukins [il] . Secreted by white blood cells, they regulate the growth and differentiation of leukocytes. Erythropoietin [epo, kidney] rbc growth factor, increases rbc count. Thrombopoietin [tpo, liver] regulates production of platelets via megakaryocytes. Granulocyte-colony stimulating factor [g-csf] regulates production of granulocytes. Hypotonic [rbc implodes] less solute in ecf, water diffuses. Isotonic [rbc in normal state] normal rbc into the cell. Hypertonic [rbc shrinks] more solute in ecf, water diffuses out of cell.
