Structuralism: conscious experience can be understood by breaking it down into its underlying components. Functionalism: the mind works as it does because it hleps humans adapt to environmental demands. Gestalt: the whole of personal experience cannot be understood by just examining its underlying components. Behaviorism: all behavior is a result of environmental forces, not mental states.
