If ignore early theorists you miss potential for understanding yourself. Early theorists were looking at themselves so often see their theories reflect their personality. There are theories that cover broad aspects of human experience and as you get more specific you might start to lose yourself in the forest of trees. Broad theories touch all of us in some fundamental ways.
