Development of criminal law, and its use to define crime. Criminologists explain the origin, extent and nature of crime in society. Criminal justice scholars describe and analyze the work of the police, courts, and correctional facilities and how to better design effective methods of crime control. Deviant behaviour: behaviour that departs from or doesn"t conform to social norms, but isn"t defined as a crime by the law (e. g. sunbathing nude) Many criminal acts aren"t deviant (e. g. marijuana use)
