Canada is widely renowned for its cultural democracy and harmonious ethnic diversity. Idea of race has little meaning in a biological sense b/c of enormous amount of interbreeding nowadays. Race is a socially constructed reality, not a biological one. Race as a social construct means that races do not actually exist; the ideas of them do. A race is a category of people who have been singled out as inferior or superior, often on the basis of real of alleged physical characteristics, i. e. , skin colour, or other subjective attributes. Race refers to physical characteristics, ethnicity refers to cultural characteristics. An ethnic group is a collection of people distinguished primarily based on the bases of cultural or nationality characteristics. Ethnicity provides individuals with a sense of belonging. Ethnic groups have five main characteristics: unique cultural traits, a sense of community, a feeling of ethnocentrism, ascribed membership from birth, territoriality or, to occupy a distinct geographic area.
