Judaism. Which changed since the destruction of the second temple • 2. Roman Empire. 313: Christianity now a star sponsored religion • Now stable leadership • OT and NT established third century: canon of the scriptures,rule of faith Most sever persecution by Diocletian 302-311 CE • • Influenced edict of Milan Trinity established at Nicaea and Jesus's nature established at Chalcedon • September 24 • Augustine of Hippo 354-430 Roman Empire now divided into two: East and West • • Augustine = west • He believed Earthly city to the city of god through baptism (Augustine was influenced by his time and the edict of Milan) • No more persecutions • Mass conversions to Christianity Hyppolytus or Rome presented another view • • City of god within the earthly city. Can only enter the city of god through baptism and gods grace This was because everyone was converting to Christianity • • Augustine's sacraments • "Visible signs of invisible grace" • N
