Leukocytes: white blood cells lymphoid = adaptive, myeloid = innate. Hematopoietic stem cells in bone marrow -> give rise to all blood cells (white, red, platelets) -> pluripotent, most made here. Some form yolk sac in fetal liver -> travel from here and feed into different tissues (central nervous system), stay and mature into immune cells. Pathogens: disease causing microorganisms; vary in size/mechanisms of damage (dif size - > dif locations, in vs. out of cell) Commensal: microbe w/ symbiotic relationship to host (microbiome) no host damage. Viruses: obligate intracellular -> lyse out of cells.
