Chapter 1: the study of the history of psychology. Study of inattentional blindness: clown study, gorilla study, image of gorilla on ct scan in radiology, were research projects that all contributed to making this widespread knowledge. This was also demonstrated in 1861 by wundt. The study of the past is relevent for the present. The history of psychology is studient in about 90% of schools; psychology is unique in this regard; other science departments do not offer studies in the history of their fields nor is this considered vital knowledge. Studying the history of psychology is the most systematic way to integrate the areas & issues of modern psychology. Psychology origins can be traced to 2 origins (about 2000 years apart) making it both one of the oldest & newest scholarly disciplines. 5th century bc - plato, aristotle, etc. grappled with the same issues we do today, but the approach was that of philosophy rather than psychology.
