BIOL 2021 Study Guide - Midterm Guide: Standard Anatomical Position, Loose Connective Tissue, Serous Membrane

134 views7 pages

Document Summary

Describe the importance of a standard anatomical position. You can look at what"s closer and farther to the body, and direction of the parts. The three major planes are the sagittal, coronal and transverse plane. We divide up all these parts to see the different views/angles of the structures. We can define the different structures and parts comparing the sides. Identify the location of the 3 serous membranes in our body. The serous membrane is a thin membrane that lines the cavities that are not open to the outside. The serous fluid allows for the membranes to slide past others, whilst reducing friction. The 3 serous membranes are located around the ventral body cavity (heart), pleural cavity (lungs), and the peritoneal cavity (abdominal organs) The general function of the epithelial tissue is to cover a body surface or lines a body cavity. The epithelial tissue forms most parts of the glands.
