Within the cells of an organism, dna molecules carrying genes are assembled into chromosomes: structures that package and manage storage, duplication, expression, and evolution of dna. Genome: entire collection of chromosomes in each cell of an organism. 1. 2 proteins: the molecules that govern life processes. A key characteristic of living organisms is the ability to use sources of energy and matter to grow; that is, the ability to convert foreign material into their own body parts.
