Distinct canadian identity: uses western, liberal values, community = nation but states does not = nation. Nation: ethnic, linguistic, cultural ideas, which a group of people share in common, ex. French values france separate religion from government. Treaty of westphalia 1648: state system emerges, began the state system, state = land, nation = ideas and beliefs, not fully independent, are interdependent. Interdependence: global trade = globalization increase in trade, alliances, aid, un. Supply management: canada dairy, anti-free trade, most countries are not free traders. Isolationism: not getting involved in interdependence, have nothing to do with other states, ex.
