Purpose/Objective:
The purpose of this assignment is to identify a need by applying the major theoretical perspectives and
sociological concepts to a current social topic. Your task is to select a topic that interests you and write a
1200-1300 word essay (4-5 pages) offering a solution to address an area of inequality.
Essay Assignment Structure:
1. Title page (with your name, student number, name of your TA, and the title of your paper)
2. Introduction and rationale (identify topic, provide a background and context)
3. Discussion (build your case, offer findings relevant to your proposal, incorporate key
terms/theories)
4. Suggestions and/or policy recommendations (focus on 1-3 suggestions)
5. Conclusion (summarize ideas/argument)
6. References
Additional Information:
You must submit an electronic copy to Turnitin.com as well as a hardcopy to your TA in tutorial.
Since the purpose of this course is to provide you with the opportunity to acquire and develop the skills
necessary to develop an effective argument, the expectation is that you will use your own words in
writing your essay. Specifically, the total number of all words in direct quotations must be 100
