Final exam - notes earth science units 7-12. Coined pangea a supercontinent that was made up of all the current continents welded together into one large land mass. Alf(cid:396)ed(cid:859)s (cid:396)esea(cid:396)(cid:272)h (cid:449)as (cid:271)ased o(cid:374): the continents appeared to fit back together like pieces of a puzzle. Believed that continents such as africa and south america were once joined. Drew a map based on this concept, and although the fit was not perfect, it did provide enough evidence for pangea: similar fossils and rock types were found on multiple continents. Similar fossils could be found on different continents, therefore must had been connected at some point: evidence for different latitude positions in the past for a given reason. Several mountain belts terminate at one coastline and reappear on a continent across an ocean, suggesting they were once part of one continuous chain.
