Geography research attempts to: establish facts: try to become geographically literate (understand what was before us, understand/explain the processes creating those facts (geographic knowledge) Studies the earth"s surface as the space within which the human population lives. Studies the distribution of humans and their activities on earth and the processes that generate these distributions. What is where? why there? why care? (gritzner) Looks at human behaviour on a landscape and human perceptions of physical geography. Goal: to increase our understanding of the human world, if we understand the environment we can minimize negatives and promote positives. Human world is an ever-changing product of human activity to modify pre-existing physical land. Focus on the evolution of human world with reference to people, cultures, and physical environments. Interested in landscape for what it is and for what it means to live in.
