Document Summary

Much of the vegetation we see today in canada is not natural. Vegetation in canada has been introduced through agriculture and human activity. Desiduous forests: composed of trees that lose their leaves each winter, ex: broadleaf forest and carolinian forest (large leaves in north of london) Coniferous forests: composed of evergreen trees, ex: boreal forest (canadian shield) Grasslands in canada are only found in the prairie provinces. The more moisture, the thicker/taller the grass. Xerophyte: a plant that has adapted to low amounts of water, adapt to the dryness, you find these in grassland areas, plants other then grass. Found in both artic and alpine areas. These plants can survive in harsh climates. Reproduce by runners (offshoots of the main plant) Found in ontario due to the proximity to the hudson bay. Tundra plants have shallow root systems due to the permafrost environment. The leaves are waxy in order to reduce moisture.
