Pazner) Geography 2122A Spatial Techniques Format: 3 hours, Mixed Friday Dec 13 , 9am-Noon MOCK Final Examination Aids Allowed: Calculator, PAB 148 Drawing materials INSTRUCTIONS: Answer the questions in Parts I, II and III. All questions to be answered in the examination answer booklet. Write double-spaced. Do NOT use a faint pencil or a red pen. Neatness counts. This examination is worth 35% of the final grade for the course. This examination totals 100 points. Part I has 4 questions and is worth 20 points (5 per question, choice of 4 out of 7 questions). Part II has one question and is worth 30 points (30 per question, choice of 1 out of 2 questions). Part III has 1 question and is worth 50 points (50 points, choice of 1 out of 5 topics) Part I - Short Answers based on the textbook material Answer four (4) of the following seven questions. Each is only worth 5 points. Do not answer more than four questions. 1. What makes an image an imagemap? 2. Pros and cons of the UTM system. 3. List three (3) types of instruments (hint: think “boxes”) that can be used to get an azimuth (direction) in the field. For each type of instrument, write a sentence that describes the principle that it is based on. Note all magnetic compasses constitute one type. 4. Why is the Interrupted (“vertical Venician Blind” appearance) Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Projection with its many gores (strips) used, rather than the uninterrupted Mercator projection?
