Key people start to evolve in the economy. Leading into the 1900s, adam smiths theory of the free market is being opposed, because of major forces of the rise of democracy and poverty. Poverty is growing due to industrialization, and more people moving to urban markets. Adam smith said that poverty would be eliminated, therefore fewer people are believing him. Thomas malthus was a critic late 1700s early 1800s, said that as people become more comfortable to where they are living, they start having more kids, thus leading to more poverty. John stuart mill criticized adam smith in 19th century. Said that smith was a great theorist and thinker, but his ideas were not practical in reality thinking on distribution. Smith had much thought on production, and not enough time spent on.
