Americans, but also for women"s rights, gay rights, aboriginal rights, disabled people"s rights: these movements are about looking into the history of these marginalized people. Modern sexuality was shaped by discourses that were created in the victorian period. = arbitrary socially constructed labels: most of how we act is dictated by these discourses, many of these discourses are obvious and evident in the 19th century, but they started in 17th century. Those who produce the knowledge about sex and sexuality (government and church, etc. History is about moving forward but also back we still don"t have complete freedom: eg. Marriage seen as a privilege and a right to some people, but it has a strict set of rules about who"s allowed to do it, how to do it, and how to get out of it. Its only allowed to be between 2 people we loosed the guidelines of men/women, but still only 2 people.
